Standard Process (vary to your needs & abilities)

  1. Install the latest Video Codec Pack.
  2. Install the latest DIVX player or creator package.
  3. Setup the latest copy of VirtualDub 32-bit on your computer (most video codecs are still only 32-bit at this time).
  4. If you're going to try to convert any QuickTime or Microsoft-format videos, install the RAD Video Tools.
  5. If you're looking up a video online: copy its direct hyperlink (right-click on the link & left-click "copy shortcut" or "copy link"); paste the link into the URL feed blank on the Video Downloader site; save the video output as an "AVI" file on your computer.
  6. If your source video is an AVI file, use VirtualDub to re-save the video in a new filename. Use the "Full Processing" option for video, choosing the DivX encoder in "Compression." Use the "Full Processing" option for audio, choosing an MP3 format of 22000hz Stereo (or Mono if no Stereo is available) @ 40kbit in "Compression."
  7. If your source video is not an AVI file, try opening it with the "RAD Video Tools" & use the "Convert" function to save it as an AVI in DIVX format. Be sure to adjust the audio setting to the best of your ability. After conversion, perform step 6 on the AVI file: you can change the video setting to "Direct Stream Copy" & use the process to render the audio in the correct MP3 format.
  8. If your source video is a Macromedia Flash movie (SWF file), install a "Flash to AVI" converter. After saving the output to an AVI file, run step 6 on the AVI file.
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 until you have the files you want ready to burn. The DVD players treat both CD & DVD discs with DIVX files as "data discs:" after burning the disc, you will load the disc into the player & you should get a menu or directory of videos to watch.
